Dress Code Policy

Purpose of Policy

One of the fundamental purposes of school is to provide the foundation for the creation and development of a proper attitude toward education. In order to further this purpose, it is essential to create and maintain an effective teaching and learning environment. Student attire impacts the teaching and learning environment. It can either promote a more effective educational environment, or it can disrupt the educational climate and process. Student attire that is acceptable for some social settings may not be acceptable for the educational environment of school. Often we are asked the question, "What is wrong with a certain appearance?" In some cases, the answer is, "absolutely nothing is wrong with it." Liberty Christian School's dress code is not designed to be a defining statement of right and wrong. We realize that each family will have various ideas on what type of apparel or appearance would be appropriate. We are not seeking to make a judgment on a family's view of what is appropriate. Liberty Christian School, since its inception, has had a dress code policy that requires students to maintain a conservative, more traditional look that will be modest and neat and will be conducive to learning in a more formal classroom environment. Determination of what is conservative, neat, and modest will be made by the administration and will be based on the dress guidelines.

Dress Code and Student Standards

Girl's:
  • Pants, Dresses and Skirts: Girls are expected to dress modestly. They may wear pants, dresses, or skirts. Skirts must come to the knee when standing. Pants must be full-length, modest, clean, not worn out (frayed on the bottom, threadbare, or holes). Pants do include jeans. Pants do not include sweats, warm-ups, stirrup pants or skin-tight clothing. Pants or skirts must be chosen to allow no midriff exposure.
  • Tops and blouses: T-shirts, halter tops, bare shoulders and bare midriffs are not allowed.
  • Collared shirts are required: Shirts may not have pictures or writing that promote disrespect, violence or sexual innuendo.
  • Hair: All unnatural hair coloring is not allowed.
  • Jewelry: One earring per ear and only in the ear lobe will be allowed. Tattoo's are not allowed.
Boy's:
  • Clothes: Boys are expected to wear clean, neat clothes without holes. Pants should be normal shoe length. Shorts, sweats, warm ups and oversized pants are not allowed. Collared shirts are required. T-shirts are not allowed. Shirts may not have pictures or writing that promote disrespect, violence, or sexual innuendo.
  • Hair: The hair should be off the collar and not over the top of the ear. All extreme or fad-type hairstyles such as mohawks, rails or "skinned" looks are not allowed. All unnatural hair coloring is not allowed.
  • Jewelry: Earrings are unacceptable for boys. Tattoo's are not allowed.
For Chapel each Friday students are required to dress up. Boys will wear slacks (no jeans) and collared shirts. Girls will wear dresses or skirts paired with collared shirts. School uniforms are also an option. On special days, such as School Spirit Days, students will be encouraged to dress in our school colors: red, white and blue.
These standards may evolve and change as new or extreme fads arise. Since we cannot possibly make rules for every fad that comes along - out of deference to the school, please call the office for clarification of any extraordinary style or questionable dress before sending your child to school. We believe there is a definite relationship between good work habits, and proper school behavior. Good taste in dress is an important part of a wholesome school atmosphere.

Violation of Standard

If a student is in violation of dress code, parents will be informed by the office. They will be asked to bring an item of clothing which fits the standard.
